Product Description
Athletic and agile, sneaky and cunning. Driven by the desire to once again hold in his hands what he lost, Gollum is one of the most fascinating characters in the world of The Lord of the Rings. He has seen things that others cannot imagine; he has survived things that others would not dare mention. Torn by his split personality, he can be vicious and villainous as Gollum, but social and cautious as Sméagol. While being vital to the story by J.R.R. Tolkien, many parts of Gollum’s quest have not been told in detail yet. In The Lord of the Rings: Gollum you get to experience this story. From his time as a slave below the Dark Tower to his stay with the Elves of Mirkwood. NOTE: Patch updates for this game are available to download.

The gameplay is fairly simple; your goal is to literally get from point A to point B undetected, which can be surprisingly challenging, but in a fun way. You may need to make creative use of the environment by turning off lights, making noise, distracting guards by throwing rocks, and sticking to the shadows as best you can. There are a few collectibles to pick up along the way, but no skill tree, level up system, or combat to speak of. It’s all about the stealth.
Now, whether this type of gameplay is “good” to you is completely subjective, but as I said there are a couple objective issues to make note of. First, while it seems the majority of technical problems which plagued the game at launch have been ironed out, I am still experiencing the occasional crash. Luckily checkpoints are generous so this isn’t TOO annoying in terms of starting your current mission over, but still. The graphics are also somewhat outdated, but while I’m choosing to believe this is an intentional stylistic choice, the poor lip-syncing and janky animations don’t exactly help the case. Honestly my biggest gripe has been that it’s difficult to see what you can and can’t interact with and have died several times simply trying to figure out what I’m supposed to do.
That said, I’m still enjoying the game for what it is and am surprised people seem to hate it SO much. Yes, it’s clearly a budget game, but there is still a certain epic-ness about it and I’m having a lot of fun traversing through it. If you enjoy the “Lord of the Rings” universe in general It think it’s worth giving it a shot.
