Been a while since ive had an espresso machine, i switched to capsules for the last 5 years and now recently back to the real deal.It looks so easy when ordering a coffee at Startbuck, grind puck and push button...When i received the machine i didn't have coffee beans and a coffee grinder only pre grounded coffee. Results where very bad, also i made a mistake not to review the manual. When you get the machine there's 3 things you need to do before use:1) Calibrate the shot level for 1 cup2) Calibrate the shot level for 2 cups3) Set temperature level (low, medium, high) standard is set to medium.See manual how to enter calibration mode.Today i bought fresh roasted coffee beans from a local farmer (i live in Colombia can't get them fresher)I also purchased a coffee grinder.Because it does matter, pre-grounded coffee doesn't give you the same aroma and crema and is too coarse.Even if i put the pre-grounded in a grinder to make it extra fine it doesn't give the same result. The coffee seems too try and doesn't tamper evenly. Now with the fresh coffee beans after putting them in the grinder the texture looks way batter and tampers evenly.See the photos and video attached those are freshly grinded beans and this is my best attempt yet. However i cant get the pressure into the ideal espresso zone as written in the manual, not sure why but ive been told that the portafilter that came standard with the machine doesn't allow pressure build up.I will try a few more days and see if i can improve it with experimenting with finer coarse and tamping the grounds more, after that ill probably gonna purchase a bottomless portafilter.Quality of the machine is excellent, operation is simple and straight forward.Might need to order a portafilter puck screen as the grounds end up in the head of the machine which need to be cleaned after each use.Edit 23/01/2024:With the original setup i was unable to make decent coffee (as i live in Colombia i have access to fresh coffee beans not months but weeks with excellent crema)First, you need a burr grinder, not just a grinder a burr grinder because you will not be able to archieve the correct grind in a million years.Second, the machine like most machines comes with a pressurized portafilter.Whatever the quality/freshness and/or quality grind you will get sour coffee with no crema.Buy a bottomless 51mm portafilter with 3 prongs and a burr grinder and you''ll thank me later.Pro's:- Your grind now matters- immediate flavor extraction- lots of crema- your coffee grinds dont stick all the way up the machine after each coffeeMost bottomless portafilters wont fit this machine, if you have ordered wrongly don't panic like in my case the prongs where to thick and didn't fit.I taped off most of the portafilter with masking take to protect from scratches, removed the handle and filed down with a metal file (costs like $3)take your time and measure the thickness to get the ideal result.Mine now fits like a glove and even easier vs the original one.And get a burr grinder with adjustable setting for espresso, it really maters the perfect size of the grind !

5.0 out of 5 stars A WORTHY upgrade to an already awesome compact espresso machine
Reviewed in the United States on August 6, 2023
Having used & absolutely loved the older model of Wirsh’s compact espresso machine which I ended up gifting to my cousin, I decided to buy the new model when I moved apartments.

Practicing barista skills at home since a few years now and Wirsh has been a solid driver to up my coffee game.

Below is my take on this machine from a snob’s pov. If you aren’t one, GO BUY THIS MACHINE, you’ll love it.

If you are a snob, I will try to list the differences with the older model with pros & cons that I think could help my fellow home baristas make a wise choice.

Pros:
1. A upgraded 20 bar pump with a pressure gauge to assist for that perfect espresso extraction

2. The stainless steel design with a touch screen panel gives an ultra premium look to this machine. It was instantly noticed by friends who came over.

3. Times between espresso extraction and steam preheat is almost under 10 seconds which is a HUGE improvement since I don’t have to wait for 30 seconds to get the steam pumping out of the wand.

4. Steam wand although looks sleek but is powerful enough to create a whirlpool for about 200-250ml milk in the pitcher.

5. Although minor but the steam/water knob has a rubber grip and feels great to control.

6. Anti slippery suction knobs to keep the machine in position while locking & unlocking the portafilter

7. Portafilter is redesigned to give a more professional look.

8. Water dispersion from shower screen is even which gives a good body to the espresso extraction process.

9. Tamper is now a solid metal spoon with a heavy base instead of a plastic one which can easily de shape after some months of use.

10. The portafilter basket now comes with a max indicator which the older model missed making the judgement relatively easier.

Cons:
1. The portafilter feels lighter than previous model and I wish it was more sturdier like before.

2. The maximum angle of steam wand could have been more obtuse. A restricted steam wand angle could need more hands on experience for swirling the milk for latte art. Does that mean it is bad? NOT AT ALL; I was able to get a decent latte art using the existing maximum angle of the steam wand.

3. The spoon size of the tamper is smaller. This is subjective and is not a deal breaker. I used the spoon to carve melon balls for my cocktail … lol.

4. The max indicator on the portafilter could be deceiving as I was having some trouble locking it in when filled up to the max indicator.

So far this has been a great espresso machine wrt quality, looks & price. Better coffee beverages is more savings by avoiding trips to cafes!
