True to form the relative calm we had experienced was done. I awoke to find #3 tied up with his head lying across our Polar Express train tracks under the tree. #2 had surprised him in the middle of the night and he is such a deep sleeper that she just dragged him to the living room and left him there. Her jubilation over the win was short lived, however, because before she could turn the train on #1 snatched her into a potato sack and shoved her in a closet. I did not even know we had potato sacks. I found #1 sitting in the dark by the fireplace with a bubble pipe in her mouth reading the Wall Street Journal. Not on a device, a paper copy of the Wall Street Journal from that day. After confirming with my wife that we have had a fireplace for all the years we lived in the house (thus waylaying my concerns that she started a fire) I decided to let the WSJ thing go. To this day she has not told me where she got it. #4 was still asleep, but figuratively every blanket we had in the house was on top of him. I am not entirely sure someone did not try to smother him.
I ordered the 2022 calendar in early September because one year I forgot, and we almost did not get one. The kids all know about when it shows up and this year they were waiting. After trying to assert dominance throughout last year’s Christmas there has been little activity until I found them huddled around the calendar under a blanket fort that had been erected in the basement. A sign on the entrance said, “Don’t Throw Cookies.” I did not get it, but clearly this was their negotiating spot.
So far, the demands are: #1 still wants eight turns. #2 wants ten turns and all the figures. #3 wants to open all the doors, seven turns, and to be able to throw a cookie in the blanket fort. #4 wants all the turns, ice cream, the PJ Mask movie, and the blanket fort converted into a pillow fort. There is a lot of carryovers here and I do not know if we can resolve the differences. So, I did what any good dad would do…I got a dog.
I thought it was a good plan and for a while things had calmed down, but we are digressing again. They are starting to argue over trivial things like where we get our pizza, or what kind of cookie we should have for dessert. I am not as worried about these arguments, but the argument about who takes out the trash and recycling are starting to concern me. I am 70% positive at least one of them is building a trash catapult and it reminded me that I never found the tunnels that were on that map last year.
Here is hoping for a merry Christmas.
UPDATE: 12/1/22: Well, it's hit the fan. After fairly constant bickering, side taking (my parents might be getting divorced now) and some relatively light teasing I put my foot down. It hurt, and I am scheduled to see an orthopedist next week, but I said "I am supposed to the adult here and I will make the final decision. Everyone gets their six turns and since it is his first year #4 will go first!" #2 chimed in with "but if he goes first he gets the last piece too and that's the best one!" Before I could explain to this 8 year old how horribly bad her math was #3 yelled "aw shewt nah" which I presumed he learned from church.
Chaos has ensued. The Christmas tree is on the ground. The dog is hiding under the trampoline. The snowman melted, which is weird because it was made of cloth. #1 is casting spells from a Descendants book. #2 has a Viking helmet on and is just charging at random things. #3 is throwing Pokemon balls at everyone. But it's #4 that worries me. He's, well, you know that look that Jack Nicholson gets when the most devious plan he could have pulled off is working? That's the look he's got. He looks like he planned all of this and now he's just sitting in a rocking chair Nicholson-ing it up with Concrete Blond's Bloodletting album playing in the background. We don't own a rocking chair so I am even more confused. I wonder how long he's been working on this? Was the Feces Armistice a ruse? I do not look forward to the next year.
One flaw for me was that there were several ship builds that cannot stand up on their own and there is no included bricks or other items that can be used to create stands.... so they just kind of lay at awkward, unnatural positions when displayed. If they had at least included a clear post and a brick or two you could attach them to, I would've been happy. (IE: the previous year's ball droid).
The let down I had with this set is that you know exactly what the last item is because it is featured on the box. By deduction, you know it is coming but haven't seen it yet... you know what it is. I like the last one to be a fun surprise - so that was a little bit of a disappointment.

Lo que sí , es que la caja es muy sencilla y se ve frágil, no le echan muchas ganas para el calendario de adviento, apenas si se agarra con una cinta, por fortuna no se rompió.
