I’ve been low-carbing for years, and I haven’t had real sugar during all this time. So that might affect my experience. My first perception of this was, hmm, lightly cinnamony. A little sweet. Not a lot of flavor. But super crunchy. Hard, really. Yet somehow, after several bites, I was hooked.
I’ve never actually eaten it like cereal in any kind of liquid. I eat it as a snack. I have a little snack cup (about a quarter cup) while I’m watching TV each night. Soooo satisfying. I also occasionally stuff a handful in my mouth as I’m going out the door. It’ll take me several minutes to (carefully...pointy edges!) crunch my way through it, and it has so much protein and fiber, it’s actually a *meaningful* mouthful. This really does a great job of tiding you over. It doesn’t leave you feeling *more* hungry, as regular, high-carb cereal would do.
The Cinnamon Toast is the only version I’ve tried, but I’m very, very happy with it. Highly recommended.
I saw this product on the shelf at my local Whole Foods (read Whole Paycheck) and I gave it a try. I might be biased here because I haven't been able to eat cold breakfast cereal in years but with this product I've finally found an answer.
The pros:
1) Tastes very good, some flavors are better than others. Hint- if you liked Fruit Loops as a kid BUY THE FRUITY VERSION OF Catalina Crunchyou won't be disappointed.
2) Crunchy ( if you don't like crunchy, just let the cereal sit for a few minutes in milk or whatever you take cereal with)
3) Different flavors to choose from
The cons:
1) Expensive - the bag is small and costs nearly $9.00! For me I get about 2.5 bowls of cereal per bag. I use it as a meal substitution, especially at night when I don't feel like cooking.
2) Not available everywhere. I suppose it's bit nichy
3) It can upset your stomach if you eat a huge bowl of it which I want to do. I suspect it's the fiber in the cereal
In spite of the cons, I'm still a big fan of this cereal and will continue to buy it. Highly recommended

It's definitely crunchy, can't hear a word my husband says to me when I'm chewing it. Not painfully crunchy though. If you like regular cereal crunch it'll be fine, just a tiny bit crunchier than them (and if you let it sit in milk for a while it softens eventually, but not too quickly!)
There's ZERO aftertaste. But again, it's been a very long time since I've eaten sugar regularly. There was a time where I had only been eating stevia drops as a sweetener, and when I went back to sugar for a year and then tried the stevia again, I was like OMG how could I like this?? It's true the longer you go without sugar the more your tastebuds change. Even taking a small sip of cream or plain nonsweetened yogurt, you'd never normally describe those as sweet, but when not eating sugar for a long while, the sugars naturally present in things like that are more noticeable. So I'm VERY acclimated to alternative sweeteners... If you are too, then you should like this cereal! Even if you're not, you might be pleasantly surprised.
There are some flavors that you can pretty much know whether they'll be bad or not. Like the maple one is the one most the negative reviews are about. You can already kind of assume it won't be as good because it can't have real maple in it, they use extra sweetener and fake flavoring to give it a semi-maple taste, so it's likely to have an aftertaste. Same with the chocolate banana, potentially, though that is one I'm still going to give a shot.
As for Magic Spoon, if anyone is interested, they're pretty good. Their fruity kind, in my opinion, is the best. Their advertisements on facebook are pretty yucky, and their advertisements through email are what made me decide to stop buying from them. Very fake, ingenuine, fake advertising, it's actually insulting. But their products are so good, not sure why they feel the need to lie. I'd still recommend giving them a try.
