Anthony Bourdain recommended Global knives as comparable in quality to German knives at a much lower price. Obviously, Global has declined in quality since that was written. My G-2 chef's knife got notched on the first day of use. Was I hacking at bricks? No, I was cutting through the breast bone of a chicken on a wooden cutting board. This is the second Global chef's knife I have had that did not stand up to routine use. The other knives in the set seem okay, but let's face it. The chef's knife is the workhorse of the set and this one won't work. You have to buy a good German knife if you want to seriously cook. Global is no longer a less expensive substitution.
These are truly wonderful knives for people who love to cook. Better than Henkels or any of the “well known” expensive brands that dilettantes talk about. They will make all your slicing and chopping a pleasure. Just be exceptionally careful, they are so sharp, you won’t know you’ve cut yourself.
These knives looked great, first couple of weeks we are thrilled with performance, but after that they entire set has started to rust. We live in the New York metro area, some of the best water in the US, and even have a filter for our sink, and these still rusted.
Amazon won't refund or exchange these, and I would say we'll probably have to just give up and get something else, can't imagine how these will look after the rust spreads through the entirety of the knives.
I like the knives for appearance, balance, comfort, but only the chef's knife was sharp enough to cut paper. The rest of the set was disappointingly dull, and I have had to order a sharpener to bring them up to speed.
My only criticism is for the seller. The box did not look new. There was no booklet, or guarantee certificate. I am suspicious that the knives may not have been new.
These knives cut everything as if they are like butter…initially.
They quickly rust and the blade starts chipping. Yes, I made sure to wash and dry them quickly. I only used the knives on a wooden cutting board.
The company says their warranty doesn’t cover any of these defects. Yes, they say to use the ceramic sharpener to remove these defects…but it doesn’t really help out much.
