I've yet to have them professionally sharpened, but I'm sure they'd be more than happy to have it done when I get around to it. They still cut great, despite them not being terribly babied. I do hand wash and dry, and would never recommend putting them in the dishwasher, though I imagine you could if you were really that desperate. Some of the comments mention ill-fitting handles or sharper edges on the tangs. I've not experienced that at all. 8/8 knives all feel very premium and well made. I imagine if you start comparing them to $50 a piece steak knives they're not going to stack up all that well, but when does stuff like that ever work?
I know it's far from Messermeister's premium offerings, but at the price, it still feels like a very nice steak knife. I recommend them and I'd buy them again.
Oh. And how can anyone possibly imagine a knife costing less than $15 each is being made in Solingen? Especially when it says right in the description they're made in China. Come on people. Use some common sense. You can't not read the item description and then leave a bad review because you thought you were getting the bargain of a lifetime on something that isn't what this is. If you want the steak knife hand-forged in Germany, that's fine, but expect to pay a LOT more for them.
These are good knives. They're made in China. Like just about everything else that you aren't paying a huge premium on. Get a grip.

These are good knives. They're made in China. Like just about everything else that you aren't paying a huge premium on. Get a grip.
1.) The silver and black pair nicely enough that they can be in the same block and not be totally outclassed, they look similar to the Wusthoff, and are a passable option if you want your knives to match.
2.) The attention to detail suffers a bit when compared to Wusthof Ikon, but they are made of x50CrMoV15 (the very same carbon alloy the Wusthof use), and can serve as a cheaper alternative to pricier Wusthof steak knives (these knives get used on dinner plates cutting steaks... I don't expect them to be cared for the same as a quality Chef's knives I care for by using cutting boards!).
3.) They are cheap enough to replace that putting them in the dishwasher doesn't bother me one bit (I would never subject my Ikon's to that... and the Messermeisters handles did fade a smidge, but still look quite good, and have not begun to shrink, warp, crack, haze over, or show other issues (over two years old, going on three...). To be clear, Messermeister says NOT to put them in dishwasher, so...
4.) My wife doesn't baby knives... so these are her "have at it, and I won't complain about you not using a cutting board or using to poke holes in the kid's science project" knives. I don't get anxious when guests carelessly drop them in the bottom of the sink (except for the risk of someone getting cut...).
5.) One knife of my set of 8 has a bit of a stain in the blade steel that has developed over the years. We do abuse these (leave in water, put in dishwasher, leave wet, etc.), and steel (even stainless) will rust, so this is not unexpected. The rust stain is not bad (most would not look closely enough to even notice), and I don't know if it was my poor knife care, or if perhaps it is due to metallurgy issues at the low-cost plant that made these that is the culprit. For the price, it is a non-issue for me. A premium blade treated this way could have the same thing occur, so it isn't a negative in my mind, it is reality... I bought inexpensive knives of decent quality so that I could treat them more poorly than my nicer knives without worry, and that lower level of concern and care certainly contributed to this. These are not forged, quality knives. But a general use steak knife does not need to be for my application.
Short answer... they look nice enough to be put next to Wusthof Ikon's. They are not as good, but from three feet away, they look like they belong. Good value, and I would purchase them again. Mine are well over two years old. Despite not babying them, they are still welcome in my knife block.
I gave them four stars. For value, I would have given them five stars, but I don't feel knives of this level are five-star knives. Some exceptionally demanding knive experts wouldn't put my Wusthof Ikon's as a five star, but I felt I did need to note that these are value knives. There are better knives. But at this price, you get a very good deal. A good kitchen steel that is fairly easy to sharpen.
These turned out to be just perfect. They match the style of the Ikons really well but are the right size and shape for anyone to use with a nice cut of meat. Actually, we just end up using them as regular kitchen knives sometimes as well because they’re so great. They are super sharp, not serrated, and they both look and feel really nice in the hand. Plus we could get eight for a very reasonable price. They are a big winner for our family!
