I use a lot of spirulina in my cooking because of the low calorie, high protein content, as well as the minerals and other micro nutrients. It's also very sustainable, raised in tanks that don't pollute. This is a great way to get it affordably.
I recommend shaking down the package BEFORE cutting it open. Spirulina is a fine powder that gets everywhere when spilled, and it can stain badly. I carefully cut the top off and spoon it into a quart jar. Sometimes I slowly pour it, but only with a funnel to avoid spills.
No real flavor at all, I use about 1 teaspoon-1 tablespoon per serving of hot cereal, omelette, smoothie, etc. I even put it in my pumpkin bread!

ZERO FISHY AFTER TASTE
I have been a Vegan, for a very long time way before it was considered trendy or cool. I don't eat salt causing me to have HYPOTENSION=(low blood pressure). One daily serving offers me iron and iodine I also suffered from a protein deficiency, from my lack of proper amino acid in the early years of Veganism daily allowance. Every day I look forward to consuming one tablespoon of Spirulina powder. I have purchased several brands of organic and standard products. THEY ALL LEFT ME WITH A FISHY AFTERTASTE.
