There are a couple of reasons why others might be having trouble. First, the suction cup will only work on a perfectly smooth, non porous surface. Glazed ceramic tiles work great, but only if the tiles are at least 6 inches square. If they are smaller than that, the suction cup won't fit on a single tile, and air will get in along the grout lines. Plastic or glass surfaces should also work so long as they are smooth. If you have textured or bumpy walls, the suction cup will not work as they will not create an air tight seal. Another problem may be that you attached the suction cup when it and the wall were dry. I've found that all suction cups tend to work better when they are slightly wet. Run your shower for a minute before attaching this, and hold it under the water for a second or two. The water helps to create the air tight seal. If you still can't get it to work, try sending it back for a replacement, as you may just have a defective one.
UPDATE: After two years of use, I am still very happy with the product. It does come off occasionally. About once a month or so it falls off, but it easily re-attaches and then holds firm again. For the cost and convenience, I think it is well worth getting if you have a small shower with no room for a larger shower stool.
It works great for resting your foot while shaving your legs and while you can put a fair amount of weight on it, don't overdo it. I did put too much weight on it once and I felt it snap or something - I thought maybe I had broke it. When I continued to try to put weight on it again, it slowly slid down the wall (and it would not refasten to the wall) and it was rendered useless for time being. I had to wait til the shower air-dried completely before refastening it and try it again. Wouldn't you know, once again, it's working like a charm and all is well again in my little shower world.
UPDATE (6/10/2015): Photo included. I still have this product, but find it comes off the shower wall a little more than I like now and sometimes feels in my way. However, I now use an 11" gripper handle for showers attached horizontally at a comfortable height for my foot. It has 2 of the these strong suction cups on the ends and so far has been sturdy, a little sturdier than this product, though you still cannot put all of your weight on either of them, of course. It doesn't stick out as far from the wall this way which is good and bad. Good it doesn't feel in your way as much, but bad that the foot space isn't deeper. Still, it is working great. Pros and cons to each of these methods.
I purchased a little ceramic top plant stand that sits just outside my shower around the corner that I leave empty (so it's handy) and will grab that and set it right outside my shower to place my foot on. This method works the best, but I do have to watch how the water runs off my body so it doesn't flood the floor outside the shower. lol It's handy though to have a little extra space to set my shave cream though. I actually prefer this method over the other two, but sometimes I use the others when I don't have time to dink with moving the stand around. At least this method is reliable - the other two, if the device should happen to move while the shower is wet, the are rendered useless until they can be reapplied to a dry shower wall. Guess it's always good to have a Plan B. ;)
Who knew this poorly designed shower stall with no place to rest a foot would entail such endeavors to remedy the problems it creates?!

Who knew this poorly designed shower stall with no place to rest a foot would entail such endeavors to remedy the problems it creates?!
The first day I tried to use it, it kept sliding down my wall. I was annoyed and frustrated and chalked it up to the reviews being right. Then I started to fiddle around with it and realized that the lever located underneath the foot rest locks into place when you push real hard on it. So the second day I placed the suction cup on the wall and had to put a lot of force on the lever underneath to lock it into place and it stayed! I have shaved my legs using this without any problems!
I gave this product four stars and not five because i wish they would make it look a bit nicer and not so sterile. I have a new shower and it sticks out like a sore thumb!
***** update
I've used this product for months and thought I should add one thing I've noticed. After a couple of days of use, the foot rest will pop off. Not fun while shaving so do be careful. I do continue to use it, but I am careful as can be. Hope this helps!

I have big smooth tiles in my shower. The suction seems really good when putting it on but it still falls off.
Sometimes I find it in the shower floor even when no one has used it yet.
Again, good idea but doesn't stay up.
