Considering that the patriarchy constantly pressures women to look a certain way, it’s no surprise then that some feel dependent on cosmetics.

From the covers of magazines with perfectly sculpted faces to TV and films, women have felt the pressure to look a certain way, even when with their significant others.

According to a study, one in twenty British men have never seen their other half without some sort of makeup on.

While most of us might prefer to snooze a little longer, some women (15%) even admitted to waking up earlier in order to put makeup on before their partner wakes up.

Worryingly, one in ten women believe they look ‘awful’ without make-up, while 41% said they felt self-conscious.

A small percentage (7%) said they would be too embarrassed to leave the house completely bare-faced – which is understandable as some people insist on commenting on how ‘tired’ one looks without makeup.

The poll by RapidLash Enhancing Serum also asked whether TV shows had an effect on women’s self perception.

TOWIE, Love Island and Keeping Up With The Kardashians inspires women to enhance their looks, the survey found.

Of the 2,000 men and women interviewed, 23% of women said it was their skin that made them ‘anxious’ to go make up-free.

But these women aren’t applying the foundation and concealer forever, saying after a month they soon go natural in front of their beau.

More than four in ten of the females polled said they would never attend a work meeting without a full face of cosmetics and 13% wouldn’t even venture to the local shop for a pint of milk.

Almost two in ten said they wouldn’t do the school run makeup free and 40% said they would never go to work without applying their make-up every morning.

And when it comes to what men think – 62% bravely claimed that women look better with their make-up on, while eight in ten men said they also dislike it when girls wear too much makeup.

So anyone who thought women wear makeup to appear more attractive to men might want to have a rethink.
