SCREENSHOT BLOCKING

In August 9, 2022, Mark Zuckerberg announced on Facebook three new privacy features to come in a new update of WhatsApp: past group participants, choose who can see when you’re online on WhatsApp, and screenshot blocking. Screenshot blocking is a technique to prevent users from taking screenshots to view once images and videos. The feature was under development on WhatsApp beta for iOS but there is news on the Android app today:

As you can see in this screenshot, WhatsApp is working on a new presentation screen that introduces the new version of view once: thanks to this new version, it is impossible to take screenshots to view once images and videos. Obviously, the recipient may still take a photo by using a secondary phone or camera, so it’s always up to you. Note that, when the recipient will take a screenshot to view once images and videos, the screenshot is automatically blocked but the sender doesn’t receive a notification about this event.
This feature is under development on WhatsApp beta for Android and it will be released in a future update of the app. As always, an additional article will be available when we have further details to share with you.
