WhatsApp is working on showing status updates in the chats list
After announcing that WhatsApp is working on quick reactions for status updates in a future update, we have discovered that WhatsApp is also developing another new feature to release at a later date: the ability to view status updates right within your chats list!

Another improvement for status updates is coming in a future update of WhatsApp beta. If you have an Instagram account, you know that it is also possible to view status updates right within the list of your private chats. Today, we can finally announce that the same feature is also coming to WhatsApp!
As you can see in this screenshot, the first contact has published a status update and it can also be seen right within the chats list or when the user is searching for chats and messages. If the user clicks on the chat cell, WhatsApp opens the conversation with the contact but if they click on the profile picture of the contact that published a status update, their status update shows up. Surely more people will start viewing status updates published by their contacts after the release of this feature.
As always, note that even if the screenshot is taken from a future build of WhatsApp Desktop, the same feature will also be available in a future update of WhatsApp beta for Android and iOS. Unfortunately, a release date for this feature is unknown since it is under development. When WhatsApp is rolling out the ability to view status updates right within the chats list to beta testers, a new post will be available on this website to announce the release of the feature.
