Nice day bed, pick it up from IKEA!Verified ReviewerIn the end it took us about 3 weeks to FINALLY get this bed, It's nice and i'd recommend it. It's fiddly to build up, you may need the patience of a saint for this one! In the end though it's a good buy if you're struggling for space like we were, but i'd absolutely recommend to go collect it yourself. You need 4 boxes for the bed, it took 3 delivery attempts to finally get all the parts needed to build the bed ( 4 if you include the delivery that never bothered to show!) and in the end the best solution IKEA could think of is reordering the entire 4 boxes and rejecting 3/4 boxes when they arrived... instead of just ordering the one box needed. Anyway, it finally came at the expense of multiple deliveries and some poor packer that had to load 3 boxes unnecessarily that day! IKEA need to do better in situations like this as surely they affect their climate agenda also. 4
Great bed Verified ReviewerMy daughters had this bed for 10years, it’s survived a house move too, really sturdy bed, easy to convert, very handy for sleepovers. And the drawers under are huge!. Cannot recommend enough 5
Think carefully before buying thisVerified ReviewerOn the surface this seems a great and attractive bed, and the concept is indeed really good. However the mattress choices are terrible and will likely leave you in agony. We’ve tried every combination over a couple of years and are finally cutting our losses and chucking it, to replace with a small double and a decent mattress. I cannot wait to have it out of the house!1
Disappointed broken bedVerified ReviewerHad the bed about a year. Recently converted to a double bed to accommodate overseas visitors and the metal support has broken. Visitors and a broken bed 😔 Difficult to put together but looks fab. Shame the double bed USP is not fit for purpose.1
Good day bed but not a full time bedVerified ReviewerUsed as an occasional bed, great. However I moved it to my son's room for a full time bed and he slept against the back panel and all of the white lacquer has all come off to expose all of the wooden fibres. Just a shame I now have to get rid of it now as he is breathing in all of the wood now the white has come off. Happy to share pictures with product team as it shouldn't peel like it has so quickly. 2
Broken slats. Replacements? No contact from ikeaVerified ReviewerYou said you’ve emailed me but you haven’t. Just respond as to how I attain replacement slats please. Should be an easy answer….1
New slats neededVerified ReviewerIKEA, a number of slats have broken, how do I get replacements?1
Great bed, but Slats tend to snapVerified ReviewerGreat bed, but Slats tend to snap and screws come out and get lost, would be great if spares were available to buy !4
GoodVerified Reviewersuper comfortable bed the only problem is hiding the second mattress, I bought the bed for a child so it has a little problem with hiding the mattress when the bed is fully unfolded, otherwise beautiful and functional5
Sixteen years old and still being used!Verified ReviewerWe bought a Hemnes day bed plus matching furniture when our daughter was 13 years old; she is now 29 and the bed is still sturdy and being used despite being taken apart and put back together again 3 times! Amazing value!5
Great luking bed but with some flawsVerified ReviewerThe slats are not at all sturdy. There we’re many zig zag joints in many of the slats which was ignored while fixing it together but then when started using it the joints started getting separated resulting in broken slats.Atleast 8 were like that and in one of them there were 6 joints which are not even available as a spare in a shop to replace it. The bed is otherwise very good luking, compact has a good storage area but not recommended for daily use.3
Great bed, but can't replace the slats after 1 year.Verified ReviewerWe love this bed and have 2 in our house in guest rooms. We've never had real problems with it, takes a little while to put together, but worth it and easy to change in/out. However after a couple of guests used one for a long stay (approximately 6 weeks) we needed to replace a few slats. I thought this would be a straightforward process...unfortunately it was not. IKEA do not send replacement slats outside of the 365 day guarantee period, nor can you buy replacement slats direct. This is very disappointing considering the bed cost over £500 and now it can't be used and will have to be recycled due to broken slats which can't be replaced. Had I known this, I would not have gone ahead with the purchase.4
Beautiful, practical and comfy!Verified ReviewerBought this for my spare room. It's perfect for a lazy Sunday snooze too!5

Bed is not made for teenagersVerified ReviewerMan I bought this beautiful bed but the ting that holds the slat broke.now I don’t have a bed. It cannot be fixed as the screws holding the rail have come out the wood breaking the wood.1

Broke after a month.Verified ReviewerTerrible. I loved it when I first got it, then within 2 weeks a plank snapped in half. Tried contacting Ikea - apparently they’re like your GP - don’t answer for hours. Then after a month, the entire thing snapped - metal gone & draws won’t go in. I’m now stuck with a bed I purchased for £500??? And ikea won’t help at all. Save yourself the money, get a better quality one1

Our take on wood

Wood is the material most commonly associated with IKEA furniture, and for good reasons. It’s renewable, recyclable, durable, ages beautifully and it is an important part of our Scandinavian design heritage. At IKEA we believe that sourced in responsible way, wood is a key change driver for climate mitigation. In 2012, we set a goal that by 2020 our wood would be from more sustainable sources. We are happy to announce that we have reached this goal and today, more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

Forests are critical for life on earth

Forests contribute to maintaining balance in the atmosphere, purify the air that we breathe and are part of the water cycle. They nourish wildlife biodiversity and provide homes for indigenous communities who depend on forests for their livelihoods. 90% of plant and animal species living on the planet need forests to survive. They provide sources of food, fuel, timber and many other ecosystem services that we rely upon. Sourcing approximately 19 million m3 of roundwood per year from some 50 countries, IKEA has a significant impact on the world’s forests and the timber industry and a huge responsibility to positively influence how wood is sourced. Responsible wood sourcing and forest management ensure that the needs of people dependent on forests are met, that businesses can work sustainably, that forest ecosystems are protected and biodiversity is enhanced.

100% wood from more sustainable sources

At IKEA, we work with strict industry standards to promote responsible forestry. We don’t allow any wood in our supply chain from forest areas that are illegal or contain high conservation values or from forest areas with social conflict. Before starting to work with IKEA, suppliers must demonstrate that they meet IKEA critical requirements on wood sourcing. IKEA requires all suppliers to source wood from more sustainable sources (FSC-certified or recycled wood). All suppliers are audited regularly and non-compliant suppliers are required to implement immediate corrective actions. By working together with our suppliers, we are proud to announce that we have reached our more sustainable sources goal, which we set out to achieve by 2020. Today more than 98% of the wood used for IKEA products is either FSC-certified or recycled.

IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030

As pressure on the world’s forests and the surrounding eco-systems increases due to unsustainable agriculture, the expansion of infrastructure and illegal logging, it is time to take an even more holistic approach to protect and support these important resources for generations to come. The IKEA Forest Positive Agenda for 2030 set out to improve forest management, enhance biodiversity, mitigate climate change and support the rights and needs of people who depend on forests across the whole supply chain and drive innovation to use wood in even smarter ways. The agenda focuses on three key areas: • Making responsible forest management the norm across the world. • Halting deforestation and reforesting degraded landscapes. • Driving innovation to use wood in smarter ways by designing all products from the very beginning to be reused, refurbished, remanufactured, and eventually recycled.

We accomplish more by working together

For many years, IKEA has partnered with businesses, governments, social groups and non-governmental organisations to fight forest degradation and deforestation and increase the volume and availability of wood from responsibly managed forests both for our own supply chain and beyond. We are on a journey to improve global forest management and make responsible wood sourcing the industry standard, contributing to building resilient forest landscapes and improve biodiversity.

Material

What is fibreboard?

Fibreboard is a stable and durable material made of leftover wood from the wood industry. A durable outer layer of paint or laminate is added to the board. The difference between various types of fibreboards, such as HDF and MDF, is mainly the thickness, yet also how impact-resistant they are. This determines if we will use them for bed frames, sofa frames, kitchen fronts, wardrobe doors, or something completely different.

Function solution

Sofa and bed in one

Living in a small space or need an extra bed sometimes? Then a day-bed can be a smart solution since you get two types of furniture in one - a sofa by day and bed by night. And since some of our day-beds also have drawers, you get a practical place to store anything from pillows and duvets to clothes and toys.

Designer thoughts

Designer thoughts

"Function and flexibility are high on the agenda where space is at a premium. That's why I designed HEMNES day-bed to fulfil four functions. A single bed, double bed, sofa and storage drawers solve four of the key needs in every home. The simple lines make sure it's at home in almost any setting. I've heard people say this is an all-round item of furniture - with room for all the family in the double bed and the cat in the pull-out drawer! That makes a designer like me feel that I've achieved my aim."
