1. If you are going to add the course ground beans into the strainer as it is intended, then when you get to the halfway point of putting the amount of coffee grounds you want into the filter, add water halfway so that those grounds can get saturated with water, then after all the grounds are in, add remaining water. Make sure you use good water, hard water produces bitter tastes. Shake gently to get water fully in between all the grounds then set in fridge or leave it out at room temp. Fridge will require longer brewing time than room temperature to bring out the sweeter tastes of the coffee. I recommend 24 hours at the very least.
2. My preferred but unorthodox method is to actually put half of the coffee grounds from the total amount of coffee I want into the jar directly (not the filter), add water halfway to get all of them soaked, then add remaining coffee grounds along with all the remaining water. I wait for the coffee to settle to the bottom which takes a couple minutes, then put the filter in! Last step is to put the top on and set in fridge. When it’s done, I pour the coffee out into a separate cup/container, and the filter successfully stops all the grounds from coming out of the jar. Make sure you hold the filter tightly against the top of the jar to prevent coffee bean fragments going into coffee. I always accidentally get a little in mine, but I personally don’t care. I basically reverse how the filter is used. I like this method better because the coffee grounds have way more exposure to the water and as the grounds expand from soaking up water, there is plenty enough room as opposed to being inside the filter - the ground’s expansion leaves less room for the water. It’s not a huge difference, but I prefer this way to get the most out of each coffee ground since coffee can be expensive.
I use 8-12 tablespoons of coffee grounds to the full jar of water to achieve the taste I want. I put mine in the fridge for 24-30 hours. So far it has given me the best cold brew I’ve ever had. No longer is there a need to give Starbucks all my money!
From the first use, it was clear that the design is thoughtful, making the brewing process a breeze. The stainless steel filter ensures no grounds end up in your drink, and the seal on the jar is perfect, keeping your coffee fresh in the fridge. The simplicity of pouring water and grounds, then letting it steep, is perfect for my busy lifestyle.
Not to mention, the flavor it produces is outstanding! It's like I've been treating myself to a gourmet coffee experience right at home. Plus, the versatility is fantastic. I can easily adjust the strength of my brew or even use it for tea.
For any coffee lover looking to elevate their brewing game, the County Line Kitchen Cold Brew Coffee Maker is a must-try. It's all about convenience, quality, and delicious results. Say hello to better mornings!
PROS:
• Mason jars are known to be very durable, resistant to breakage, and can handle wide temperature fluctuations. This large two-quart jar is no different.
• No leaking. The seal on the flip top of the cap, the seal around the mouth of the lid/jar, and the seal that the filter rests on are all working great. I’ve never had issues.
• Easy to clean. The brewer has the same size mouth as the standard Ball wide mouth mason jar, so my small hand (and probably most others) fit easily inside to clean. The metal filter is very narrow so I soak in warm, soapy water and scrub with a bottle brush. The filter is a fine mesh, so it does take a while for a thorough clean, but I only clean it thoroughly after a few times of use.
• Tastes great! I followed the instructions in the booklet it comes with. You’ll probably have to play around with the coffee to water ratios to find your perfect taste, but the good news is if it’s too strong you dilute with water, too weak and you add more grounds and let it “brew” longer.
CONS:
• If you make cold brew with the grounds in the filter and then you want to drink some a bit early, but want to let the grounds still stay in the filter to steep, you will have to take the filter out each time to pour your serving. The lid does not have an additional filter inside it to keep the grounds in the filter from going in your cup. The coffee in the filter is water logged so you’ll have to set it in a bowl so you don’t have coffee running everywhere. It’s just a bothersome process. A way around it would be to put the grounds directly in the jar with the water, add the filter empty, and then you wouldn’t have to take the filter out to pour the brew.
This is not a deal breaker for me, but is only mildly annoying. It’s literally the ONLY con I could think of. You won’t be disappointed if you purchase this product.
This product would be above and beyond awesome if:
• If the cap had an extra filter (either permanent or removable) so the inner filter (full of grounds) wouldn’t need to be removed to pour the cold brew.
• If the cap was a solid color. The jar would look more aesthetically pleasing on the counter or in the fridge if it was a solid black or solid gray. Obviously this doesn’t affect performance of the product, and many people may not care what it looks like, but clean aesthetics DO improve some people’s experiences of products.
SWEETENED COLD BREW RECIPE (makes 2 quarts):
• 2 cups hot water
• 1/4 cup sugar
• 1.5 cups ice cubes
• Coffee grounds, coarsely ground, filled up to 1” from the top of the filter.
• Cold tap water, filled until 1/2” from bottom of lid.
*** Pour ice cubes in cold brew maker. Heat water, dissolve the sugar in the water. Pour sugar water over ice cubes to cool the water temp and melt the ice. Water will now be at room temp or a little colder.
*** Add coffee grounds in filter, place in mason jar. Pour cold water through filter, swirling jar to mix with the sugar water, until at correct level.
*** Leave on the counter or in fridge for around 12 hours. After it has brewed to your desired strength, store in fridge and use within 2 days for best taste.
*** Pour sweetened cold brew over ice, add half an half (or other unsweetened creamer/milk) to the top and watch the pretty swirls😍 Enjoy!

Pretty much all of the other brewing jugs I saw were tall and narrow, meaning that you could accidentally tip it out of the fridge door if opened too quickly. Many also had glass handles and lots of the comments mentioned that the handle broke after only a few uses. The narrow shape would likely have been a pain to wash them by hand as my hands are quite big. Also none of the others seemed to have a consistent seal since the spouts were often open to the air, causing the fridge air to affect the taste.
None of the above are issues with this one though. I've been using it for the past month now (made about 4 brews so far) and it's been great! It's wide-mouthed which makes it easy to clean, the glass is thick with no thin handle to break and there's a good silicone seal in both the filter and the lid to keep it fresh (also great for transporting it in the car!). The mesh is great too, very fine holes and sturdy. My only complaint would be that it's not that large, but it makes enough for 3-4 mugs, though perhaps if it was any larger it may not fit in the fridge door, or cause it to have the aforementioned problem of falling out of the fridge door if opened sharply, so maybe it's for the best that it's the size that it is.
Highly recommend this over ALL of the other designs, especially as it costs the same as them (~£25 after postage/import taxes).
Good bits:
- The cap stays closed and sealed.
- The filter filters most sediment (though there are particles in the last cup, but thats due to a metal filter's limitations and not the product's fault)
- It's friggin' huge. Well, it's big.
- Easy to use (though the top can be a challenge to get off sometimes)
- Love the glass. Looks great, measurements of all kinds, and vey accurate.
Bad (?) bits:
- You might think you're getting 2L out of this, but with the volume of the filter and coffee, it's more like 1.5L- but whatever. Maths.
- Cleaning the filter is kind of hard. I use a たわし on a stick, or for normal people, a stiff brush would work great, but don't think that you can put your hand in there. It's narrow and it'll rip your hands up (lightly), it won't feel good. Unless you're a freak, then go for it.
- It doesnt fit in my fridge door. Though, I live in Japan, where fridges are small. So, whatever. Plus, it might break my door, as it's 2L of water... so... yeah.
- If i liked to complain, there's not enough to complain about. Seriously, it's great.
